Press Area » Help

To use the Press Area, you must first register your details with us. You can do this here. Once you have registered we will activate your account and you will have access to all documents in the press area.

Once your account has been activated you will be able to login to the press area. If you forget your login details, send an email to sue.bickler@bournemouth.gov.uk and we will email you your login details.

Searching for Press Items

Use the search function to find specific articles in the press area archive. Use keywords that are more likely to appear in the type of article you are looking for. E.g. 'Housing Benefit' will return more directed search results than 'Benefit Housing'. Search results are ordered by each items relevancy to the keywords used.

Printing Press Items

Every press item apart from download items, contain a link to a printable version of the article. This will display the article with printer friendly formatting and a larger font size.

Sending a Press Item to a friend

Every press item also contains a link to the email to a friend page. These links allow you to quickly and easily email a link to a press item to a friend or colleague.

Adding a New Press Item

If you have privileges to add press items the menu option 'add a press item' will be displayed on the left side bar. A press item requires a title, a summary and some content.

The following HTML tags can be used in the press item content:

Press Item templates

A new press item can use one of four built in templates:
1. Text only
2. Text with image (left/right aligned)
3. Text image and then more text
4. Downloadable file(s)

Once a template has been selected, the press item content can be added and the press item added to the press area.

Formats 2 and 3 that require an image allow a jpg image to be uploaded to the server. These images should be optimized for the web and should be of the following dimensions (or less):

2. 200px x 200px

3. 340px x 340px

The Downloadable file format allows multiple files of any type to be uploaded to the server as a downloadable file. There is a limit to the size of these files.

Example file types:

Portable Document Format (.pdf)
Microsoft Excel Speadsheets (.xls)
Microsoft Word Documents (.doc)
Jpeg Images (.jpg)

Editing and Delete Press Items

If you have privileges to edit and delete press items the menu option 'edit a press item' and 'delete a press item' will be displayed on the left side bar. Deleting a press item will remove it completely from the press area.

Editing a press item allows you to change to content of the press item, you can also change the category the press item resides in.

Adding, Editing and Deleting Categories

If you have privileges to add,edit and delete category you you will see three menu items on the left side bar allowing you access to these functions. When deleting a category it is advisable to move any press items in that category to another category beforehand.
