Elections

The Process for Registering/Voting - to ensure you don’t miss your vote!
Registration – There are now two versions of the electoral register. The full electoral register contains the names of all registered electors and is used for Parliamentary, European and Council Elections.

The edited electoral register does not contain the names of people who ‘opted out’ (by ticking a box on the electoral registration form to avoid junk mail). This means that the Council are not allowed to use your details for any purpose other than the types of elections listed above and may not provide your details to anyone else.

If you were one of the people who ticked the opt-out box on the council’s electoral registration form then your details will not have been passed to the Electoral Reform Services (ERS), who are running the election on our behalf, because of the new electoral registration laws.

Do I need to register?
If you receive the registration form, special NM News, and nomination pack in an envelope addressed personally to you, you do not need to register specially for the Resident Elections as your name appears on the edited electoral register.

If you receive the registration form, special NM News, and nomination pack in an envelope addressed to ‘The Resident or Occupier; your name does not appear on the edited register and you do need to fill in the registration form and return it to the ERS by the 9th September 2005.

What about others in my house?
If other residents of your property have received their own envelopes, they do not need to register. If any members of your household aged 16 years old or above, have not received an envelope, they do need to register.

What if I’m not entitled to be on the Electoral Register?
Even if you are normally entitled to register to vote for General and Local elections, you will be able to vote in the Neighbourhood Management Board elections, provided you register with
the ERS.
