Kings Park Orienteering

The revamp of the orienteering course in Kings Park has now been completed and officially opened by the Neighbourhood Management Chair Lisa Northover on Saturday 16th September 2008. This new course will help to increase the amount of organised activities in the lower area of Kings Park. It will give young people and families a chance and purpose to explore a part of their local area that they may not have visited before. Encourage more people to use an area in a positive manner, it will also increase community activities within the local area.

It will help many local Scout Groups hold orienteering activities who would normally have to erect their own temporary courses, this course would give them an opportunity to simply arrive on site and start the activity with resources that they have downloaded or have paid little more than a £1 for, once they have these materials they can keep them for as long as they last and even copy them.

Local Schools will be encouraged to use the orienteering course as part of the National Curriculum. This will be a natural progression from using their own school grounds. Bournemouth Borough Council have an existing agreement with the Army Cadets who use Kings Park for exercises who may also utilize this facility.
