Outcome area - Private sector
Strong links between local voluntary and community groups (through the Council for Voluntary Services) and the business sector have been developed and continue to grow.
Substantial effort on the part of the Community Involvement Officer has resulted in a thriving Boscombe Traders Group who, supported by NM, succeeded in attracting funding for a Town Centre Manager (TCM) who will reinvigorate the shopping area, ensuring new businesses move in and that existing businesses do well. We attracted funding from the Council for this post, acknowledging the importance of Boscombe, its traders and its shoppers, to the local economy.
The Boscombe Traders Association have had various other successes, which include:
- A Small Retailers Initiative to establish Boscombe Retailers Against Crime – a data sharing protocol with a computer based backup.
- A Safe Child Scheme within the Boscombe precinct and Sovereign Shopping Centre.
- A commitment to start Sunday trading in the form of a Farmers/Craft market in the precinct area.
